Phlebotomist App

An app for phlebotomists that enables them to track and manage blood samples. The app allows patients to schedule home visits for blood draws or to make appointments at a nearby clinic. Phlebotomists can use the app to scan barcodes on the sample collection tubes, ensuring that each sample is accurately labeled and tracked. The app also provides real-time updates on sample status and alerts the phlebotomist to any potential issues or delays.

Problem

During the pandemic, the demand for at-home blood collection services has surged as individuals prefer the safety and convenience of having phlebotomists come to their homes. However, this shift to at-home services introduces new challenges for maintaining sample integrity and ensuring accurate test results. Despite the best efforts of phlebotomists to handle samples properly, the risk of contamination persists during transportation or within the laboratory itself. Such contamination can lead to inaccurate test results, potentially impacting patients' treatment plans and causing additional costs for both patients and healthcare providers. To address this issue, the healthcare industry needs a comprehensive solution that ensures secure and contamination-free sample handling throughout the entire process, from at-home collection to laboratory testing, safeguarding the reliability of diagnostic outcomes and enhancing patient satisfaction.

Goal

An app that can help us reduce losses in our company's lab by keeping track of the samples collected by phlebotomists. The app should record the information of each sample collected, such as the patient's name, date, and type of test. This will ensure that no samples are lost or mislabeled, which can lead to costly errors.

In addition to recording sample information, the app should also help phlebotomists schedule their daily appointments and manage their time effectively. The app can provide a list of patients who need blood drawn each day, and allow phlebotomists to schedule their appointments accordingly.

Furthermore, the app can help phlebotomists keep track of their own schedules and availability. They can input their working hours and availability, and the app will generate a schedule that fits their preferences and the needs of the lab.

Overall, this app will improve the efficiency and accuracy of our lab operations, and ensure that all samples are collected and processed correctly.

Easy tracking samples

This app makes it easy for phlebotomists to follow up on blood samples by providing them with essential information about each patient. Before drawing blood, phlebotomists can access basic information such as the patient's name, phone number, and email address. For appointments that require a home visit, the app also provides the patient's address.

After drawing blood, phlebotomists can take a photo of the sample and upload it to the app. The app then generates a tracking number that can be used for follow-up purposes. This tracking number enables the phlebotomist to keep track of the sample as it moves through the lab and ensure that it is processed correctly.

Easy manage time

The app provides two views for the schedule page: a calendar view and a list view. In the calendar view, users can see their appointments for each day, week, or month. In the list view, appointments are displayed in chronological order, with the most recent appointment appearing first.

Users can easily manage their work schedule and availability through the app. They can set their preferred working hours and availability for each agency they work with. This allows them to schedule appointments around their personal commitments and ensures that they are available when needed.

What I've learned

Attention to detail is key: When designing an app that will be used for critical tasks, such as collecting and tracking blood samples, attention to detail is critical. Every element of the app, from the layout to the color scheme, must be designed with the goal of providing clear, accurate, and easy-to-understand information.

Collaboration is essential: Developing an app like this requires close collaboration between the UI designer, developers, and end-users. The app must be designed in a way that is technically feasible and meets the needs of the end users.

Constant iteration and testing are important: Even after the initial design is complete, the app must be continuously tested and refined based on feedback from the end users. This ensures that the app remains relevant, user-friendly, and effective over time.

Keep Update: Design is an ongoing process that never truly reaches a final conclusion. As the market evolves, user feedback is collected, and new functionalities are required, the design must adapt to meet these changing needs and continue to deliver a seamless and satisfying user experience. Embracing this iterative approach allows for continuous improvement and innovation in the ever-changing landscape of design and user expectations.
